Trunyan Village is one of the unique villages in Bali. This village has a unique tradition of funeral processions. People who have died will only be placed without burial process. This is the main attraction of this village.Balinese people generally carry out funeral processions or Ngaben for humans who have died. However, trunyan village has a unique tradition where the people there do not carry out the Ngaben procession or burn corpse.


Trunyan Cemetery

There are three types of graves in this village, that are  graves for babies and unmarried people,  graves for unnatural deaths or due to tragedies such as accidents and suicide and graves for normal deaths which are currently becoming tourist attraction in the village. For normal death, the villagers would only place the corpse under a old tree. The body will be covered with a cloth with the face of the  corpse which can still be seen. The corpse will also be placed together with several offerings and "bekel" in the form of relics of the corpse, then the body will only be fenced off by a bamboo around the body

On this cemetery The corpse  is placed under a tree called "taru menyan" which means fragrant tree. The villagers believed that the tree can naturalize the odor from decomposting process of the corpses. This makes the visitors amazed by the magic of this tree.

Trunyan village is located in Kintamani sub-district, Bangli Regency, Bali province. Terunyan Village is located near Lake Batur. Tourists will arrive at this village by taking at least 3 hours from Denpasar.


How to get trunyan village

You can rent public transportation or drive  motorbikes or cars to get to this village. to go to the cemetery of the trunyan village you need to come to the Kedisan pier. At this pier there will be several boats that are chartered for visitors who want to visit Trunyan cemetery. Access to this pier can be by vehicle, either a car or a tourist bus. On your way by boat, you will be presented with a beautiful lake view

Boat Rental fees

to cross the lake,  visitors need to rent a boat to get to the Trunyan cemeter, the cost that you need to prepare is around IDR 1,000.000 per maximum for 3 people.

The thing that need to be attention for all visitors

for all visitors that want to visit this cemetery there is several thing tjhat need to be attention:

- female visitors who are on a period are not allowed to enter the grave.

- It is prohibited to take any items around the grave.

- Doing things that are not polite is prohibited

- Do not litter
